The EUSPA and ASECNA through a formal agreement, have been involved in the EGNOS V3 Extension project that aims at extending the foreseen EGNOS V3 services to Africa. This engagement involves the installation of EGNOS Reference stations called Ranging and Integrity Monitoring Stations (RIMS) sites
on the African continent. In Niger, two sites were identified, namely Agadez and Niamey. From 12th February to 11th March 2022, JPO represented by GNSS experts Herbert Ngaya and Alex Wanda provided assistance to ASECNA on behalf of EUSPA by undertaking site surveys in Niger. Specifically, the experts’ participation resulted in the following:
  • Increased visibility of the JPO and its programme about its ability to undertake site surveying activities for SBAS implementation.
  • The team gained experience and knowledge in implementing Site surveys for SBAS implementation
  • Inputs to the development of the requirements for the planned procurements of the site survey toolkit by JPO were obtained following the team’s review of the manuals and field experiences.
